Serving with a Pure Heart at the Feet of Śrī Śiva
There is a quiet tendency within us to feel that service will become possible when we have more, more time, more stability, more resources. Until then, we feel limited. We tell ourselves that once things are in place, we will be able to give more and serve more meaningfully. But as life unfolds, that moment keeps moving further away. Even when circumstances improve, new responsibilities arise, and the same intention begins to fade. This creates a subtle delay within, a feeling that service belongs to a future that never quite arrives. But the heart, in its simplicity, is not waiting for more. It is already capable of giving. It longs to respond naturally, without being limited by what it has or does not have.
That sincerity begins the moment we come to the feet of Śrī Śiva.
To live at His feet is not about waiting for the right conditions, but about recognising what is already present within us. It is the gentle understanding that service does not begin with abundance, but with purity of heart. When life is simple, the heart remains soft and responsive. But as possessions and responsibilities grow, the mind becomes occupied, and that same softness begins to reduce. We may still wish to serve, but the feeling no longer flows as freely. Slowly, we begin to see that it is not what we have that sustains service; it is the steadiness of the heart.
The disturbance in service arises when it becomes connected to what we possess or what we can do. We may begin to feel that greater means more service, or that without resources we cannot truly contribute. Slowly, a subtle pride or a sense of limitation begins to form. We may feel, “When I have more, I will serve,” or “I am able to serve more than others.” In both ways, the heart moves away from simplicity. In this way, what we call service can quietly become dependent and unsteady.
But when we place everything at the feet of Śrī Śiva, something changes within. Service becomes lighter and more natural. We do not serve based on what we have; we serve based on how we feel. Even in small ways, the heart begins to respond. A moment of attention, a feeling of care, a quiet presence, these become meaningful. And whatever we are able to offer, we place it at His feet. In this, the heart remains unburdened, and service remains pure.
In the spirit of dharma, the value of action lies not in its size, but in its intention. When actions arise from sincerity and are free from ego, they become meaningful. When everything is seen as His prasāda, even the smallest gesture carries quiet value. The heart slowly begins to understand: “I am not here to serve through abundance… I am here to serve with purity.” Our hesitation begins to dissolve when we stop focusing on what we lack. The world may measure service through visible contribution, but the heart measures it through sincerity. When we turn towards Śrī Śiva, even quietly, this clarity begins to grow. His presence becomes enough. His acceptance becomes steady.
To live like this does not require anything new to be added, it requires a gentle inner shift. In everyday life, there are many small moments where service can arise naturally. A kind response, a listening ear, a quiet act of care, these are all ways the heart expresses itself. Slowly, a quiet fullness begins to arise, not from doing more, but from being open. A fullness that remains even in small acts, a fullness that quietly supports both ourselves and others.
Today’s Sādhanā — Serving with Inner Purity: Today, gently notice where the mind waits for the “right time” to serve. In those moments, pause and turn within. Ask softly, “Can I respond right now, in a simple way?” If someone needs attention, offer presence. If someone shares something, listen fully. Before any action, inwardly say, “Śrī Śiva, this is Yours.” Let your service arise from sincerity, not from waiting. At least a few times during the day, close your eyes briefly and feel, “I am at the feet of Śrī Śiva. I do not need more to serve.” Do not force this feeling, just return to it gently.
Inner Bhāva: Do not wait to have more before you serve; let your heart remain available as it is. Offer both what you can do and what you cannot do at His feet. Even if you hesitate, return again. Each return keeps the heart simple.
Reflection for Today: Did I wait to serve today, or did I remain sincere at the feet of Śrī Śiva?
Gentle Reminder: Come back to His feet again and again, not by waiting for more, but by offering what is already here. Nothing is ours; everything is His, and in that purity, service becomes natural.
