Day 4

Remaining Steady at the Feet of Śrī Kṛṣṇa

There is a subtle movement within us that constantly measures; sometimes we feel elevated, and at other times diminished. We feel a sense of worth when things go well, when recognition comes, or when life appears to support us in visible ways. And when these are absent or begin to shift, something within quietly drops. Without fully noticing it, our inner state becomes dependent on what is changing outside. Even when everything seems stable for a while, there remains a subtle insecurity beneath it, a sense that what we rely upon may not last. The heart, in its simplicity, is not seeking this constant rise and fall. It longs for a steadiness that does not depend on circumstances, a space where nothing needs to be measured or compared. It longs to rest in something that does not come and go.

That steadiness begins the moment we come to the feet of Śrī Kṛṣṇa.

To live at His feet is not about withdrawing from life, but about shifting what we depend upon. It is the gentle recognition that what we usually rely on (wealth, position, relationships, recognition) are all movements of Prakṛti. They arise, they change, and they pass away. Yet we hold on to them as if they define us. Slowly, as understanding deepens, we begin to see that these were never meant to be the basis of our identity. In truth, we have always belonged to Śrī Kṛṣṇa, always supported by Him, even when we were unaware of it. When this is seen, even for a moment, something within begins to settle. The need to measure ourselves loosens, and a quiet feeling arises: “I belong to Him… that is enough.” This is not something we create; it is a gentle recognition of what has always been true.

The restlessness we feel does not come from what we have or do not have, but from the belief that these define us. We try to build a sense of self through what we possess, through how we are seen, and through what we achieve. In doing so, the mind becomes dependent and unsteady. But when we place everything at the feet of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, something changes within. The outer world may continue to move, but inwardly we are no longer tied to it. There is a subtle release, a quiet stability that begins to arise. In the Bhagavad Gītā, such a devotee is described as steady in both gain and loss, samaduḥkha-sukhaḥ svasthaḥ. This steadiness does not come from controlling life, but from not depending on what changes. When everything is received as His prasāda, even change carries a quiet acceptance within it. The heart slowly begins to understand: “I am not defined by what comes and goes… I am here to remain at His feet.” Our instability deepens when we measure ourselves through the world, through comparison, validation, or external success. But the world cannot provide a lasting ground to stand on. Only Śrī Kṛṣṇa can. When we turn towards Him, even quietly, this dependence begins to loosen. His presence becomes enough. His acceptance becomes steady.

To live like this does not require giving up anything outwardly; it requires a gentle inner clarity. It is the courage to stop measuring ourselves again and again, and to rest in what does not change. Slowly, a quiet steadiness begins to arise, not rigid, but deeply calm. A steadiness that remains as life moves, a steadiness that quietly supports us through all situations.

Today’s Sādhanā — Resting in Inner Steadiness: Today, gently notice where the mind measures, feeling high or low based on situations or responses. In those moments, pause and turn within. Remind yourself softly, “This does not define me.” Before beginning any action, inwardly offer it: “Śrī Kṛṣṇa, this is Yours.” After it is done, offer it again. Let what comes be received, and what goes be released. At least a few times during the day, close your eyes briefly and feel, “I am at the feet of Śrī Kṛṣṇa. I do not need to measure myself.” Do not force this feeling, just return to it gently.

Inner Bhāva: Do not try to become great or avoid feeling small; simply step away from measuring altogether. Let everything remain as it is, but let your identity rest only in Him. Even if the mind compares again, return gently. Each return deepens your steadiness.

Reflection for Today: Did I measure myself through the world today, or did I remain steady at the feet of Śrī Kṛṣṇa?

Gentle Reminder: Come back to His feet again and again, not by trying to become something, but by letting go of all measurement. Nothing defines you except your belonging to Him, and in that, the heart finds true steadiness.
