Turning Towards the Real at the Feet of Śrī Śiva
There is a quiet tendency within us to keep moving towards what is difficult to attain, while overlooking what is always available. We spend our energy chasing outcomes, seeking fulfilment through achievements, possessions, and recognition. The mind believes that somewhere ahead, something will finally complete us. But even as we move forward, a subtle dissatisfaction remains. What is gained does not stay, and what is achieved does not end the seeking. The heart, in its simplicity, is not asking for more attainment, it longs for something that is already complete. When this is understood, even briefly, a quiet shift begins to arise within.
That turning begins the moment we come to the feet of Śrī Śiva.
To live at His feet is to gently recognise the difference between what is attainable and what is real. What is attained depends on conditions, effort, and time. But what is real does not depend on anything; it is always present. Slowly, as understanding deepens, we begin to see that fulfilment does not come from completing desires, but from seeing their nature. When this is seen clearly, even briefly, something within begins to turn inward. A natural clarity begins to arise, without effort.
The restlessness we experience does not come from lack of achievement, but from constant movement towards what cannot be completed. Desires arise, are pursued, and then replaced by new ones. Even when fulfilled, they do not bring lasting contentment. This cycle continues because we believe fulfilment lies in completion of desire. But in truth, desire itself is endless. This is where fatigue arises, not from life, but from continuous chasing. And yet, we rarely pause to question this movement.
But when we turn towards Śrī Śiva, something begins to shift within. We start to see that letting go is always possible. We may not be able to fulfil every desire, but we can step back from them. There is a quiet recognition: “I do not need to follow everything that arises.” In that understanding, the grip of desire begins to loosen. The mind becomes lighter, not because everything is achieved, but because something is released.
In the spirit of the teachings, what is real is not something to be gained, but something to be recognised. When everything is seen as His prasāda, even desires lose their hold. The heart slowly begins to understand: “I am not here to fulfil everything… I am here to remain at His feet.” This understanding brings a quiet strength within. It frees us from the pressure of constant seeking.
Our confusion continues when we overlook what is already within our capacity. We feel that fulfilment requires effort, while letting go feels difficult. But in truth, letting go is always available, it does not depend on external conditions. When we begin to see this, even gently, a new direction opens. What once felt distant begins to feel close. This itself is a deep shift.
To live like this does not require rejecting the world, it requires seeing it clearly. We continue to live, act, and fulfil our responsibilities. But inwardly, we begin to turn towards what is stable. Slowly, a quiet contentment begins to arise, not created, but discovered. A contentment that remains without effort, a contentment that quietly supports us through every experience.
Today’s Sādhanā — Turning Inward: Today, gently notice where the mind is chasing fulfilment. In those moments, pause and turn within. Ask softly, “Is this truly complete?” Let this question bring clarity. Instead of following every desire, remain for a moment without acting on it. At least a few times during the day, close your eyes briefly and feel, “I am at the feet of Śrī Śiva. Nothing more is needed.” Do not force this feeling, just return to it gently.
Inner Bhāva: Do not try to fulfil everything; begin to see clearly. Let desires arise and pass without holding on. Offer both longing and clarity at His feet. Even if the mind moves outward, return gently. Each return deepens your understanding.
Reflection for Today: Did I keep chasing what cannot be completed today, or did I turn towards what is real at the feet of Śrī Śiva?
Gentle Reminder: Come back to His feet again and again, not by achieving more, but by seeing clearly. What is real is already here, turn towards it, and in that clarity, peace becomes natural.
