Being Alert Every Moment at the Feet of Śrī Kṛṣṇa
There is a subtle tendency within us to let time pass without full awareness. We move through the day engaged in many activities, yet not always attentive to how each moment is being used. Small distractions, habits, and unmindful actions slowly fill our time. In the moment, they seem insignificant, but over time, they quietly take away something very valuable. We may not notice it immediately, but what is being lost is not just time; it is life itself. The heart, in its simplicity, is not meant to drift in this way, it longs to remain alert, to live each moment with presence and purpose. When this alertness is missing, even meaningful opportunities quietly pass us by.
That alertness begins the moment we come to the feet of Śrī Kṛṣṇa.
To live at His feet is to gently recognise the importance of every moment. Time once gone does not return. It cannot be recovered or replaced. Slowly, as understanding deepens, we begin to see that each moment carries an opportunity, to remember, to serve, and to grow inwardly. When this is seen clearly, even briefly, something within becomes attentive. A quiet awareness begins to guide how we live. This awareness itself becomes a form of protection.
The loss we experience does not come from lack of time, but from using it without awareness. We spend time in ways that do not uplift us or others, and in doing so, something within becomes dull. The time meant for remembrance is lost in distraction, and the time meant for meaningful action is spent without clarity. Even though we have the ability to choose, we sometimes continue in carelessness. This is where the real loss happens, not outside, but within. And this loss is often noticed only when time has already passed.
But when we turn towards Śrī Kṛṣṇa, something begins to shift within. We start to see that even a single moment, when lived with awareness, carries great value. Remembrance of Him, even in a simple way, brings clarity. Serving others, even in small ways, brings quiet joy. There is a recognition: “This moment can be used rightly.” In that understanding, life becomes more meaningful. A quiet sense of responsibility begins to arise.
In the spirit of the teachings, what matters is not how much we do, but how consciously we live. When everything is seen as His prasāda, even ordinary actions become meaningful. The heart slowly begins to understand: “I am not here to let time pass… I am here to live each moment with awareness.” This understanding brings a natural alertness without strain. It keeps the mind from becoming careless.
Our carelessness continues when we forget the value of what is given. We allow moments to pass without noticing them. But when we begin to remain alert, even gently, this pattern begins to change. Awareness enters small actions, and slowly, the quality-of-life transforms. What was once unconscious becomes conscious. This itself is a deep shift.
To live like this does not require doing something extraordinary, it requires presence. We continue to live, act, and fulfil our responsibilities. But inwardly, we remain attentive. Slowly, a quiet sharpness begins to arise, not forced, but natural. A sharpness that keeps us awake, a sharpness that quietly supports us through every experience.
Today’s Sādhanā — Living with Alertness: Today, gently notice how each moment is being used. In those moments, pause and turn within. Ask softly, “Am I present right now?” Let this question bring clarity. Before any action, inwardly say, “Śrī Kṛṣṇa, let me remain aware.” Let your actions continue, but let your attention remain steady. At least a few times during the day, close your eyes briefly and feel, “I am at the feet of Śrī Kṛṣṇa. Let me not lose this moment.” Do not force this feeling, just return to it gently.
Inner Bhāva: Do not try to control everything; simply remain aware. Let each moment be lived with presence. Offer both your attention and your distraction at His feet. Even if you forget, return again. Each return deepens your alertness.
Reflection for Today: Did I remain aware in my actions today, or did I let time pass unconsciously at the feet of Śrī Kṛṣṇa?
Gentle Reminder: Come back to His feet again and again, not by doing more, but by being present. Every moment is valuable, use it with care, and in that awareness, life becomes meaningful.
