Day 9

Seeking the Highest at the Feet of Śrī Śiva

There is a constant movement within us to seek, to achieve, and to arrive somewhere better than where we are. We move from one goal to another, believing that fulfillment lies ahead, in what we will gain, become, or experience. At times, we feel close to it, and at times, it feels distant again. Even when something is achieved, the satisfaction does not remain for long. Soon, another desire arises, and the movement begins again. This creates a subtle restlessness within, a feeling that something is still incomplete. The heart, in its simplicity, is not seeking endless movement. It is seeking completion, something that does not fade, something that does not need to be pursued again and again.

That clarity begins the moment we come to the feet of Śrī Śiva.

To live at His feet is to gently question what we are truly seeking. It is the recognition that all that we chase in the world, wealth, comfort, recognition, or position, has its place, but it is not complete. These come, stay for a while, and then change or pass. When we depend on them for fulfillment, the mind remains unsettled. Slowly, as understanding deepens, we begin to see that what we truly long for is not something temporary, but something that is full and unchanging. This longing itself is not a weakness; it is a quiet indication of what is real.

The restlessness we feel does not come from the world, but from expecting it to give what it cannot. We try to build a lasting sense of happiness through things that are constantly shifting. We may achieve much, yet something within still feels incomplete. The more we try to fill this gap externally, the more it seems to expand. In this way, seeking itself becomes tiring, and the heart begins to feel the weight of its own search. But when we turn towards Śrī Śiva, something changes within. We begin to see that what we are seeking has always been present. He is not something to be achieved, He is that completeness which we are already connected to. When this is felt, even briefly, the endless movement begins to slow down. There is a quiet recognition: “What I am seeking is already here.” In that moment, the search becomes softer. In the spirit of the teachings, what is complete is not found in what comes and goes, but in what always is. When everything is seen as His prasāda, even the changing world is no longer a source of lack. The heart slowly begins to understand: “I am not here to chase endlessly… I am here to rest in what is complete.”

Our seeking becomes restless when it is directed outward alone. But the world cannot provide something that remains unchanged. Only Śrī Śiva can. When we turn towards Him, even quietly, this outward movement begins to settle. His presence becomes enough. His completeness begins to reflect within us. To live like this does not require leaving the world, it requires a gentle redirection. We continue to act, to work, and to live as before. But inwardly, we stop expecting permanence from what is temporary. Slowly, a quiet contentment begins to arise, not forced, but natural. A contentment that remains even as life moves, a contentment that quietly supports us in every experience.

Today’s Sādhanā — Turning Towards What is Complete: Today, gently observe what the mind is seeking. In those moments, pause and turn within. Ask softly, “Will this truly complete me?” Let this question bring clarity. Before any action, inwardly say, “Śrī Śiva, let my seeking turn towards You.” Let your actions continue, but let your expectation soften. At least a few times during the day, close your eyes briefly and feel, “I am at the feet of Śrī Śiva. What I seek is already here.” Do not force this feeling, just return to it gently.

Inner Bhāva: Do not try to stop seeking; simply guide it gently. Let your longing move towards what is real and lasting. Offer both your desires and your understanding at His feet. Even if the mind wanders outward, return again. Each return brings quiet clarity.

Reflection for Today: Was I seeking completion in the world today, or did I turn towards what is complete at the feet of Śrī Śiva?

Gentle Reminder: Come back to His feet again and again, not by chasing more, but by recognising what is already present. Nothing is lacking, everything is His, and in that understanding, the search begins to settle.

Mantra for the Day: Oṁ Namaḥ Śivāya
